Women's Tennis Concludes Day One at ITA Midwest Regionals

Two Marquette women's tennis players tallied singles wins Thursday at the 2009 ITA Midwest Region Championships, hosted by Northwestern University.
Junior Rachael Hush beat Toledo's Nadia Zoubarova (6-2, 6-4) and will take on Akron's Prang Pantusart on Friday. Pantusart had a bye on Thursday.
Junior Christina Ruiz, who earned a first round bye, will take on Michigan State's Whitney Wilson in singles play Friday.
After a first round bye of her own, freshman Kelly Barry defeated Akron's Anya Baronayte in the second round (6-2, 7-6 (4)), and will take on Michigan State's Amy Barton in the next round.
Sophomore Gillian Hush fell in the first round to Eastern Michigan's Julia Breuss (6-3, 3-6, 6-4).
Doubles draws were announced Thursday, and play will begin Friday afternoon. Both doubles teams of R. Hush-Ruiz and G. Hush-Maggie Wilson earned first round byes.
