Golden Eagles Host Oakland Saturday

The Marquette women's basketball team closes out a short two-game homestand at the Al McGuire Center Saturday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m., against Oakland before it heads to Cancun, Mexico to play in the Caribbean Challenge over the Thanksgiving holiday. A live audio stream will be provided by WMUR.
The Golden Eagles (2-1) enter play following a hard-fought 66-59 win over Missouri Valley Conference preseason favorite Creighton Thursday evening at "The Al." Senior Lauren Thomas-Johnson totaled a career-best 20 points, while Georgie Jones also pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds in the win.
Oakland (1-2), who was selected to finish second in the Summit League, returns nine letterwinners and four starters from last season's team, which finished 26-7 overall, 16-2 in Summit League play. Rookie Bethany Watterworth leads the Grizzlies with 19.7 points per game, while All-Summit League Preseason Team selection senior Melissa Jeltema follows with 12.7 ppg through three contests.
The Grizzlies lone win this season was at Columbia, 61-58, in overtime. OU has suffered losses to Toledo (87-75) and Detroit (74-65) on its home court.
Marquette is 4-0 all-time against the Grizzlies. The two teams last met on December 28, 2008 at the O'Rena where Angel Robinson scored a career-high 33 points to lead MU past Oakland, 78-68.
