MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette track and field squad returns to action Friday at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The meet kicks off Friday at 5 p.m. ET with the women's long jump and will conclude Saturday evening following the men's 4x400-meter relay at 4:35 p.m.
"This is one of our big meets of the year as far as the indoor season is concerned," said head coach Bert Rogers. "We should have some good performances this weekend. In the running events, because of how strong the competition is we should have some pretty fast times. I am looking for some good stuff to happen at the Meyo meet."
The Meyo Invitational marks the third event at Notre Dame in which the Golden Eagles have competed during the indoor season. MU also was at Notre Dame for the Blue & Gold Invitational on Dec. 5 and the Notre Dame Invitational on Jan. 23.
"I am looking for our distance runners to breakout this week," Rogers said. "They have been building up, running in off-events and they are ready to have a great meet."
Last weekend the Golden Eagles competed at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational where they recorded numerous personal records and BIG EAST-qualifying times. For the women, Jessica Ehlen upped her personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 60 feet, six inches, a mere six inches shy of the school record in the event. Also recording an event victory was freshman Billy Schlottke in the 800-meters.
