MILWAUKEE - Lots of exciting summer soccer action involving members of the Marquette women's soccer team wrapped up last weekend. Six players represented Marquette at two national tournaments and in the W-League.
Junior-to-be Lauren Thut and incoming freshman Rachel Brown's Eclipse Select team won the U.S. Adult Soccer Association's (USASA) Women's National Cup this past weekend in Sanford, Fla. Eclipse Select blew away the Phoenix Inferno, 11-0, in its semifinal match to punch its ticket to the championship game against NYAC. Incoming freshman Rachel Brown recorded a hat trick in the 11-0 rout, scoring goals in the 64th, 67th and 83rd minute.
Eclipse Select captured the title with a 3-1 victory over NYAC.
The U19 Eclipse Select team, which features Marquette sophomores-to-be Erin Tedesco and Lindsey Page, advanced to the U.S. Youth Soccer U19 National Championship in Lancaster, Mass. Eclipse select earned a berth in the national championship game after it finished 2-0-1 in round-robin play, but fell 4-2 in overtime to the Colorado Rush.
Fellow classmate Lisa Philbin's FC Delco Fury II, who also advanced to the Nationals, was held winless in round-robin play.
Sophomore Rachael Sloan and junior-to-be Julia Victor were both members of the W-League's Chicago Red Eleven this summer. The team finished the season as the Midwest Division Champ with an 8-1-1 overall record. Sloan was named to the W-League's Team of the Week on July 22, following a two-point performance in the Red Eleven's win over the Fort Wayne Fever.
