MILWAUKEE - Marquette University junior outside hitter Ciara Jones was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for volleyball after helping the Golden Eagles to wins over St. John's and Connecticut, the league announced Monday.
The Orlando, Fla. native recorded a team-high hitting percentage of .340 during the two matches and averaged 3.29 kills and one dig per set. Jones is currently second on the team behind classmate Ashley Beyer with 3.05 kills per set and has 192 total kills on the season. Marquette ranks second in the BIG EAST with 13.86 kills per set.
In the sweep of St. John's Friday night, Jones was one of three Golden Eagles to record double-digit kills, with 10 in three sets. On Sunday, she led Marquette with 13 kills in a 3-1 victory while recording her first service ace of the season. She also tied a career high with five digs and set a season high with four blocks.
The honor is the first of the season for Jones and second of her career. It is the fifth honor of the season for the Golden Eagles, with Nikki Klingsporn and Beyer each having earned two apiece.
