MILWAUKEE - Marquette University junior outside hitter Ashley Beyer was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for volleyball for her play in wins over Villanova and the University of Pennsylvania, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Beyer led the Golden Eagles with 17 kills in both a 3-1 victory over Villanova and a three-set sweep of Penn. She averaged 4.86 kills and 2.57 digs per set in the two matches and notched her fourth double-double of the season at Villanova with 10 digs to complement her 17 kills.
The victory over Villanova was the first conference victory of the season and the first win on an opponent's home court for the Golden Eagles. The win also snapped a 12-match winning streak for the Wildcats, who had not lost a match in over a month.
Beyer currently ranks second in the BIG EAST in both kills per set (4.17) and points (4.74).
It is the second honor roll mention of the season for Beyer, who also earned recognition on Sept. 20 for her play at the Wildcat Classic against Harvard, Charlotte and Northwestern.
Beyer and the Golden Eagles will host their BIG EAST home opener Friday, Oct. 8 at the Al McGuire Center at 7 p.m. against St. John's.
