MILWAUKEE - After posting a league-best .625 hitting percentage in two matches last week, Marquette University women's volleyball middle hitter Rabbecka Gonyo was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in her career, the league announced Monday.
Gonyo tallied 17 kills on 24 swings in sweeps of West Virginia on Friday and Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Ingleside, Ill., native currently leads the BIG EAST and the NCAA in hitting percentage with a mark of .441 (246 kills, 51 errors, 442 attempts).
Her career hitting percentage of .296 currently ranks first in program history, as does her mark of .441 this season. Her .336 attack percentage in 2009 was the second-best season in school history, and now ranks third.
The senior leads a Marquette offense ranked first in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.290) and second in both assists (13.32 assists/set) and kills (14.11 kills/set).
Gonyo is one of two Golden Eagles to start every match and has helped Marquette to a 17-7 overall record (8-2 BIG EAST), including an undefeated month of October (10-0).
The Golden Eagles' 10 consecutive wins ties a school record in NCAA Division I play. Since joining the NCAA for the 1986 season, Marquette also won 10 matches in a row from Aug. 30 - Sept. 13, 1997.
Marquette continues its season on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. against Illinois-Chicago at the Al McGuire Center. The squad has five regular season matches remaining before the BIG EAST Tournament Nov. 19-21 in Pittsburgh.
