Malone-Povolny and Kulla Honored for Academic Success

MILWAUKEE - Two members of the BIG EAST American Division Champion Marquette women's soccer team were honored for their hard work and dedication on the field as well as in the classroom Tuesday, as senior midfielder Rosie Malone-Povolny and junior goalkeeper Natalie Kulla were named to the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-America All-District Five Team for women's soccer. Malone-Povolny was a first team selection, while Kulla earned second team honors.
Malone-Povolny, a double major in middle/secondary education and writing intensive English with a 3.85 grade point average, has been an integral member of the Golden Eagles midfield throughout her career. Malone-Povolny has been a staple in MU's starting 11 with a team-best 82 career starts under her belt, and has started the last 48 games. She has contributed a career-high four goals and three assists for the season. It is Malone-Povolny's first all-district selection by CoSIDA.
First team selections have the opportunity to be named to the ESPN Academic All-America team, which will be released on Nov. 18.
Kulla, a civil engineering major, holds a 3.53 grade point average. She is Marquette's all-time shutouts leader with 31 for her career, including nine this season. Kulla has played every minute of every match in the last 43 matches dating back to the 2009 season. It is also Kulla's first all-district selection by CoSIDA.
