MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball team will open a two-game road trip Wednesday night at Wisconsin. The Golden Eagles 18 meeting with the Badgers will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network with Dave Eanet (pxp) and Debbie Antonelli (analyst) and calling the action. Tip-off at the Kohl Center is set for 6 p.m.
Marquette will play at Creighton on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 2:05 p.m.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 56-41 win over Monmouth on Nov. 21. Angel Robinson and Tatiyiana McMorris each scored in double figures and combined for 23 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists in the win.
The Golden Eagles' four-game win streak will be on the line Wednesday night at the Kohl Center. It is the third time in program history Marquette has opened the season with four consecutive wins, and needs one more to match the best start in program history. The last time Golden Eagles started their season with a season with five straight wins was in 2008 when it defeated Oral Roberts, Sacred Heart, Indiana State, Western Michigan and Gonzaga. Marquette began the 2004-05 season in similar fashion with wins over Milwaukee, IUPUI, Toledo, Drake and Wisconsin.
Courtney Thomas will see a familiar face on the court at the Kohl Center on Wednesday in her older sister Ashley. Ashley Thomas is a junior forward for the Badgers and has played in all four games averaging 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. With two years age difference between them, Courtney and Ashley played two season of varsity high school basketball together at Loyola Academy. Thomas is not the only Golden Eagle who has a sister playing Division I basketball for another team as Katherine Plouffe's twin sister, Michelle, is a freshman at Utah and Gabi Minix's sister, Aubrey is a redshirt freshman at Murray State.
Wisconsin (2-2) will look to rebound after dropping its last two games at Green Bay (69-43) and to Kansas in overtime (93-86). After sitting out the first three games due to injury, the Badgers' leading returning scorer from the 2009-10 season, Alyssa Karel, returned to the lineup against Kansas and scored a game-high 27 points.
The Badgers lead the series with Marquette, 10-7, and have won the last two games. Prior to the two straight losses, the Golden Eagles defeated the Badgers during the 1998, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007 seasons. Marquette has won three times in the Kohl Center, 1998, 2003 and 2005.
