MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball team will wrap-up its two-game road trip Sunday at Creighton. The 2:05 p.m. tip-off can be seen live on www.gocreighton.com.
With five straight wins, Marquette (5-0) is off to one its best starts in program history. It is the third time in program history Marquette has opened the season with five consecutive wins (2008 and 2004), and needs one more to record its best start in program history. The last time Golden Eagles started their season with a season with five straight wins was in 2008 when it defeated Oral Roberts, Sacred Heart, Indiana State, Western Michigan and Gonzaga. Marquette began the 2004-05 season in similar fashion with wins over Milwaukee, IUPUI, Toledo, Drake and Wisconsin.
In its last time out, Angel Robinson scored a game-high 21 points and Sarina Simmons registered her second double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) of the season to defeat Wisconsin, 66-52 in Madison. The win at Kohl Center was the Golden Eagles' first since the 2005 season.
Robinson is one of three Golden Eagles who is currently averaging more than 10 points per game. Paige Fiedorowicz and Katherine Plouffe are the others with 12.2 and 10.8 points per game, respectively.
Marquette's game at Creighton (2-2) is part of the nationwide Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project, using Jesuit basketball to raise awareness of Jesuit education as both Marquette and Creighton are Jesuit institutions. The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project highlights more than 90 games this season between men's and women's teams from the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities across the United States. Marquette will also play at Georgetown on Jan. 8 as part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight.
Marquette is 2-4 all-time against its Jesuit counterpart in Omaha, Neb., but the Golden Eagles have won the last two outings. Marquette defeated the Bluejays in overtime, 75-69, at the Al McGuire Center in the second round of the WNIT on March 24, 2008, and won the last regular season meeting on Nov. 19, 2009, 66-59, also at the Al McGuire Center.
