MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field squads will travel to Cincinnati this weekend for the 2010 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. Events will begin Friday morning at Gettler Stadium with the heptathlon and decathlon and continue Saturday and Sunday with the remaining competitions.
Junior javelin thrower Catherine Benage will be Marquette's first athlete to compete at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by the men's discus throw with junior Robert Bleem and senior Jeff Kluge.
In other events, seniors Jayne Grebinski and Erynn James will look to improve their standings for the NCAA First Round in Austin, Texas on May 27-29.
Grebinski has the 16th-fastest time nationally in the steeplechase this season (10:23.86), recorded at the Mount San Antonio College Relays on April 15. Grebinski will face a very tough field in the steeplechase as there are five BIG EAST runners ahead of her on the national performance list.
James will look to improve her high jump ranking on the NCAA performance list in the final field event of the Championships on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. James ranks 15th nationally and is one of only 24 female jumpers in the country to have reached at least 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10 3/4 inches) this season.
