MU Golfers Place Fifth at Irish Creek Collegiate

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Marquette University finished fifth overall at the Irish Creek Collegiate led by junior Kelly Kretz who posted his third career top-five finish Sunday, closing with a one-under-par 70 at The Club at Irish Creek.
Kretz placed fifth individually, matching his previous best finish of the season at the Xavier Invitational this past October. He carded back-to-back scores of 72 and 69, respectively, in first- and second-round action on Saturday and finished at two-under 211.
Marquette posted a third-round score of 292 to finish at 868 (287-289) for the tournament, five strokes better than Toledo (873). Charlotte, which was paced by individual medalist Corey Nagy's final-round 67, took home the team trophy at 842 (284-278-280).
Senior Mike McDonald shot 216 (73-70-73) to record a 12th-place finish and junior Ben Sieg placed 25th with a 220 (73-75-72).
MU's next scheduled event is the 2010 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship set for April 18-20 in Innisbrook, Fla.
