MILWAUKEE -- Valley Fields, home of the Marquette University men's soccer team, will again be the site of the Milwaukee Cup, the Golden Eagles' annual derby against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, on Wednesday, Sept. 1. The regular-season opener will kick off at 7:05 p.m.
Originally scheduled to played at UWM, the match was moved due to ongoing renovations to replace the playing surface at Engelmann Field. MU retained the Milwaukee Cup in 2009 with a 1-0 victory over the Panthers. MU's Calum Mallace scored the game-winner on a 35-yard direct free kick in the 85th minute.
This will be the second straight year that the Milwaukee Cup will be played at Valley Fields as the contest has traditionally alternated venues between the two schools. UWM last hosted the Milwaukee Cup in back-to-back seasons in 1999 and 2000.
