Men's Soccer Opens Preseason Slate Saturday With UW-Whitewater

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette men's soccer will hit the pitch the first of three preseason exhibition matches this Saturday, Aug. 21, at 5 p.m. CT when the Golden Eagles host the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Valley Fields. There is no cost for admission.
MU reported for training this past Sunday, and the squad played its annual Blue vs. Gold scrimmage on Tuesday. Junior midfielder Calum Mallace scored twice in the first half to help lead the Blue team to a 3-0 victory in the team's first taste of action in 2010.
This weekend's match against the Warhawks, an NCAA Division III program and member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), will mark the first time this preseason that the Golden Eagles will go head-to-head against another opponent.
UW-Whitewater won the WIAC title in 2009 and went 12-6-3 en route to its ninth NCAA Division III tournament appearance.
Marquette will host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in another exhbition match at Valley Fields on Tuesday, Aug. 24. The Golden Eagles then travel to Kentucky to take on the Wildcats in the final preseason match on Aug. 27.
