Check Named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette men's soccer sophomore David Check was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Check posted a 1-0 shutout at Rutgers to help Marquette win its first conference opener since 2002 and first BIG EAST opener since joining the league in 2005.
"It's a big honor for me," said Check. I put in a lot training hours this summer, and to see them paying off for me and our team is a good to see."
He faced 18 shots, including 12 in the second half, and tied a season high with six saves. The shutout was his third of the season, and third in seven career games played.
"I think everyone played a big part [in the win vs. Rutgers], especially our back line -- they were absolutely outstanding." Check said. "Having your first league game away from home isn't an easy task by any means, but our team was flexible and adjusted to the situation at hand. It was a great start to our BIG EAST campaign."
The Sophomore has played 590 minutes in net this season, posting six starts. His 0.61 goals against average ranks No. 26 and NCAA Division I and his .867 save percentage ranks No. 22 overall.
