Mamalat, Gutierrez Crowley Fall In ITA Qualifying Draw

Marquette University men's tennis players Dan Mamalat and Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley were eliminated from the qualifying draw of the 2011 ITA All-American Men's Championships Monday afternoon in Tulsa, Okla.
Mamalat, who was playing his fifth match in three days after advancing through the pre-qualifying draw, was defeated by Florida's Tripper 6-2, 6-2. Gutierrez Crowley earned a bid to the qualifying bracket, but was downed by Johan Backstrom of Mississippi 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in his opening match of the competition.
Mamalat and Gutierrez Crowley will team up in doubles action on Tuesday afternoon when the duo faces Jordan Szabo and Jackson Withrow of Texas A&M.
