Marquette Falls to Washington State, 65-52

ST. THOMAS, U.S.V.I - Despite three Golden Eagles scoring in double figures, the Marquette University women's basketball team fell to Washington State, 65-52, in both teams' opening game of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Thursday evening at the University of the Virgin Islands.
The Golden Eagles (2-2) drop their second straight, while the Cougars improve to 3-2 overall.Chelsie Butler paced MU with 13 points, while Katherine Plouffe and Arlesia Morseeach chipped 10 points. Marquette struggled from the free throw line tonight, only making four of its 14 attempts, but shot over 40 percent for the second straight game (21-of-52).
Washington State's Sage Romberg led all scorers with 19 points, and Cougars finished the game shooting 40.7 percent from the floor (24-of-59).
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Arlesia Morse jumpstarted Marquette in the second half and gave the Golden Eagles a six-point lead, 35-29, but the Cougars went on an 8-1 run to go ahead 37-36 and held on to the advantage for the remainder of the game.
Washington State used a 16-2 run over 6:20 in the second half to take a 15 point lead (60-45), which put the game out of reach for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Friday against Prairie View A&M. Tip-off is set for 4:45 p.m. CT.
