Marquette Opens Day One At Knights Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Marquette women's tennis squad opened day one at the Knights Invitational, hosted by UCF, with singles and doubles competition versus UCF and Stetson, respectively.
In singles action, freshman Erin Gebes won her draw in the no. 2 spot defeating Jenna Doerfler (UCF) 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (12-10). Classmate Aina Hernandez- Soler also won her match against Katie Spivak (UCF) 6-1, 6-3.
The Golden Eagles took two of three matches from Stetson in doubles. In the no. 1 position Ana Pimienta/Erin Gebes defeated Sara Lazarevic/MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell (Stetson) 8-3. In no. 3 doubles, Hernandez-Soler/Ali Dawson defeated Jen Miller/Clarke Tatje (Stetson) 9-8.
"The fight today was really good," head coach Jody Bronson said. "We fell short in dictating the match. Tomorrow we will be more aggressive and work on being in control of the match."
MU will be back at the UCF Tennis Complex on Saturday. The Golden Eagles will face Florida Gulf Coast in doubles at 9:00 a.m. CT followed by a singles match against Stetson.
