
Four MU Players Named Academic All-District

MILWAUKEE - Four members of the Marquette University men's soccer team have been named to the 11-person Capital One Academic All-District 6 Men's Soccer Team it was announced Thursday.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Charlie Lyon (St. Charles, Ill.), senior center back Eric Pothast (Lake Zurich, Ill.), senior midfielder Bryan Ciesiulka (Naperville, Ill.) and redshirt sophomore central defender Axel Sjoberg (Stockholm, Sweden) received the recognition.
Among the eight districts, only one other NCAA Division I school (Stanford) placed as many as four student-athletes on an all-district team.
This is the second time that Lyon, Pothast and Ciesiulka have been honored, while Sjoberg earns his first Academic All-District award.
All four student-athletes will now be placed on the Capital One Academic All-America ballot, which will be voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of the America (CoSIDA) and announced in late November.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have appeared in at least half of the team's contests and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
