QUEENS, N.Y. - The Marquette University women's volleyball team can claim at least a share of its first BIG EAST Conference title in program history on Sunday afternoon when the squad takes on St. John's at Carnesecca Arena in a match broadcast live on ESPN3.
The Golden Eagles (20-5, 12-1 BIG EAST) are coming off a five-set victory over Seton Hall on Friday afternoon in which they won their 20th match for the fourth consecutive season.
Autumn Bailey's 20 kills led MU against the Pirates while Lindsey Gosh and Meghan Niemann added 15 kills and 11 kills, respectively. With energy lacking early in the contest against Seton Hall, it was Gosh and Niemann who sparked the Golden Eagles to hold off SHU and sit just one win from a conference championship.
St. John's fell in four sets to Creighton on Friday after winning the first frame and will face DePaul on Saturday before facing MU on Sunday.
Marquette, which has also competed in the Midwest Collegiate Conference, Great Midwest Conference and Conference USA, has never won a league title of any kind as a member of NCAA Division I.
