Cross Country Teams Garner USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams have earned 2012 Division I All-Academic Team honors, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced early this week.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the squad must have had a cumulative team grade point average of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
The Marquette women boasted a GPA of 3.56 this past fall semester and were one of 200 Division I teams to achieve the academic award. The Golden Eagles sent seven participants to the 2012 NCAA Greats Lakes Regional Championships and finished 16th overall.
On the men's side, Marquette was one of 145 Division I teams reach all-academic status. The men's team earned a 3.265 GPA last fall. MU sent seven representatives to the NCAA Great Lakes Region Championships in the fall and placed 15th overall at the event.
The BIG EAST Conference was well represented on both the men's and women's side. The conference had the most teams make the lists with 12 teams on the women's side and nine on the men's.
The USTFCCCA named Oklahoma State and Oregon its men's and women's scholar teams of the year, respectively.
