
Marquette Opens BIG EAST Play on Tuesday

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's basketball team (4-7) will open its 10th season of BIG?EAST?on Tuesday when the squad welcomes Xavier to the Al McGuire Center.
The Golden Eagles have a two-game winning streak heading into the start of league play. MU bested Vanderbilt, 80-67, before defeating Western Illinois, 65-57 in the final game before the holiday break.
Freshman Kenisha Bell was named to the BIG?EAST honor roll last week after averaging 16.3 points per game over a three-game span, including a career-high 25 points in a loss to Northern Kentucky.
Bell leads MU with 14.7 points per game and ranks 10th in the BIG?EAST.
Xavier owns an 8-4 record heading into Tuesday's game. The Musketeers opened BIG?EAST play on Dec. 3 against St. John's, but fell, 65-42.
Xavier is led by Briana Glover who averages 12.2 points per game, while Leah Schaefer is the squad's leading rebounder with 5.6 boards per contest.
This is Xavier's second year in the BIG?EAST. Last season Marquette defeated the Musketeers in both regular season meetings- 73-67 in Cincinnati and 75-54 in Milwaukee.
This game concludes a four-game homestand for the Golden Eagles, the longest of the season. MU will travel to Georgetown and Villanova for games on Jan. 2 and Jan. 4, respectively.
