MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Notre Dame, Indiana, for the 35th annual National Catholic Championships on Friday, Sept. 19.
The meet, which will take place at the Notre Dame Golf Course, is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. Central time with the men's and women's open race. The women's race will commence at 3:15 p.m. CT, while the men's race is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
In all, the meet features over 800 runners competing for 37 teams.
Last year, Marquette's women's team took third, while the men's side finished fourth. Junior Kellie Greenwood led the Golden Eagles with a ninth-place finish in 2013 and sophomore Brittney Feivor recorded the second-best time on the team and placed 16th. Junior Andres Tineo-Paz is the men's top returner from last year, as his 26th-overall finish was good for third on the team.
Marquette's men's squad took home the team championship in each of the first three years (1980-82) of the meet, while former MU All-American Keith Hanson (1983-86) won three individual titles and Dave Uhrich claimed one. The women have won three team titles (1995, 2001 and 2006).
The squads last competed on Sept. 5 in Verona, Wisconsin in their first meets of 2014 at Wisconsin's Badger Opener at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. The women's team finished third and was led by Greenwood, who finished fifth overall. Freshman Alec Miller paced the men's team, which placed fourth, and finished 24th overall.
