KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- After a slow start on day one of the Bronco Super Challenge, the Marquette University women's tennis team bounced back Saturday at Western Michigan amassing a day two record of 4-4 as a team.
The duo of Erin Gebes and Silvia Ambrosio continued their success, dispatching Reimchen and Douglas of Iowa, 6-2 in the semifinal match of the doubles draw. The doubles championship match was close throughout, but Baron and Schmider of Indiana were too tough, taking down Gebes and Ambrosio, 6-4, to win the title.
In round robin action, freshman Leoni Daems took down Carin Runefelt of Iowa, leveling her record at 1-1 for the flight. Courtney Hebard was unable to stay unbeaten, losing to Taylor Tamblym, also leveling her record at 1-1.
Sophomore Paula Tormos Sanchez fell in the Flight C semifinals (6-3, 6-4), and will play for third place tomorrow morning. In the same flight, senior Aleeza Kanner defeated Aime Tarun of Iowa in straight sets (7-6 (2), 6-0), and will play in the consolation championship tomorrow.
In Flight B, Diana Tokar battled back from one set down, defeating Sena Suswam of Louisville (5-7, 6-4, 7-5), and like Kanner, will play for the flight's consolation championship tomorrow.
The Golden Eagles will look to head into the winter on a high note, as tomorrow will be the last day of fall competition for the squad, as they have over a two month break in their schedule.
