Stearns, Verdu Conclude Play At ITA All-American

Marquette concluded play at the 2016 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships Sunday afternoon with singles competition by the duo of senior Mackenzie Stearns and sophomore Alvaro Verdu in Tulsa, Okla.
Stearns dropped his opening match to Mitch Harper of Virginia Tech by a score of 6-2, 6-3. Verdu also fell in in his first outing, being defeated by Nicolas Rouanet of Louisville, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Stearns was able to rally for a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 win in his consolation match on Sunday, downing his opponent from Oral Roberts. Verdu dropped his consolation contest.
Both players were competing in the 256-player pre-qualifying draw, hoping to earn a spot in the qualifying bracket later next week.
