
Marquette Opens 2016-17 at 41st Annual MTC

The Marquette University men's tennis team will commence its 2016-17 fall campaign on Friday, September 16 at the 41st Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
The MTC is hosted by Marquette and will take place at the Town Club in Fox Point, Wis. Five universities are slated to participate in the event, including Wisconsin, Ball State, Boise State and Navy.
At last year's event, Daniel Fernandez won the men's singles tournament for Marquette. Fernandez is one of two players lost (Gleb Sklyr).
The Golden Eagles boast seven returners, including Greg Anderson, Scott Christian, Nick Dykema, Andre Romanello, Mackenzie Stearns, Kristiyan Trukov and Alvaro Verdu. Four freshman join the roster for Marquette (Brett Meyers / Naperville, Ill., Brandon Shanklin / Miramar, Fla., Luke Smrek / Wellend, Ontario and Alexander Warstler / Cincinnati, Ohio).
The team obtained an overall record of 14-10 last season and has reached the BIG EAST title match each of the past two years.
The spring portion of the schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.?
