The Marquette University men's tennis team (2-1) picked up its second win in as many days, downing Illinois State 7-0 Sunday afternoon at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
MU finished the weekend 2-0, having defeated IUPUI 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Marquette posted a pair of straight-set wins by senior Kristiyan Trukov and freshman Brett Meyers to push the team ahead 3-0 and the team didn't look back in the shutout victory. The dual win was the first for Meyers, who missed the fall campaign with a leg injury.
The Golden Eagles opened the match by claiming the valuable doubles point against the Redbirds. Seniors Mackenzie Stearns and Kristiyan Trukov were the first to finish, posting a 6-2 decision at the No. 2 spot. Sophomore Greg Anderson and freshman Luke Smrek quickly followed with a 6-2 win over their own at No. 3 to secure the point.
MU continues its four-match homestand on Friday, Feb. 3 when the team hosts Toledo at 6 p.m. CT.
