
Marquette Hosts Army on Sunday

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's basketball team will play its final non-conference home game of the season on Sunday when the squad welcomes Army West Point to the Al McGuire Center.
Marquette (4-4) is looking for a victory after falling short at No. 24/21 Michigan on Thursday. Junior Erika Davenport led the team with 23 points in that contest as Allazia Blockton and Danielle King added 19 points each and Blockton turned in her second double-double of the season as she grabbed 11 rebounds.
Army (6-3) Is fresh off a 70-59 loss to Delaware as the Black Knights were paced by leading scorer Madison Hovren with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Hovren currently averages a double-double at 16.7 points per game and 11.4 rebounds. Marquette is the first BIG EAST opponent in the regular season that Army will face since the 2011-12 campaign when the Black Knights took on Seton Hall.
The Golden Eagles are led by Blockton with a 17.6 points per game average, ranking fifth in the BIG EAST Conference, while Davenport leads MU on the glass with 7.1 boards per contest. The Golden Eagles combine for 45.8 percent field goal shooting, which leads the league, while they rank second behind DePaul averaging 83.4 points per game. Army averages 67.6 points per game.
Marquette has won nine straight at the Al McGuire Center, dating back to last season when the Golden Eagles fell to St. John's on Feb. 5, 2017.
Sunday marks the first meeting between the two programs.
The Golden Eagles will play a road contest at crosstown-foe Milwaukee Sunday, Dec. 17 before finishing out the non-conference slate at nationally ranked Notre Dame on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
