
Marquette takes down Air Force, 7-6

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's lacrosse team narrowly defeated Air Force on Tuesday afternoon, 7-6, in a non-conference battle at Valley Fields.
Ryan McNamara recorded a hat trick against the Falcons, while Andy DeMichiei and John Wagner added two goals apiece. McNamara scored the go-ahead goal for the Golden Eagles (5-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) with less than five minutes remaining to secure the victory.
The Golden Eagles outshot Air Force, 30-19, and tallied 22 ground balls to the Falcons' 11. Junior face-off specialist Zach Melillo notched five ground balls for MU and went 3-of-4 at the dot in the fourth quarter after being called for a pair of violations in the third frame.
After entering the half tied 3-3, Air Force raced out to a 6-4 edge with 1:19 remaining in the third quarter on Nick Hruby's third tally. Marquette answered in the fourth quarter and outscored AFA, 3-0, for the win. Wagner pulled MU within one at the 12:46 mark of the fourth before DeMichiei tied the game, 6-6, on a behind-the-back goal under a minute later
McNamara's third goal of the day with 4:35 remaining put Marquette ahead for its second straight single-goal victory this season.
Marquette's Cole Blazer, made his sixth and final save of the day in a man-down situation with 27 seconds remaining to preserve the lead.
Marquette is now 15-4 all-time in games decided by one goal in program history.
The Golden Eagles resume action at Villanova on Saturday, April 1 at noon Central time.
