
Marquette Edges Creighton 4-3 On The Road

The Marquette University men's tennis team (13-4) concluded its weekend trip to Omaha, Nebraska, with a narrow 4-3 victory over Creighton (8-9) Sunday afternoon at Hanscomb Tennis Center.
The win was the eighth straight for the Golden Eagles.
MU earned the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions. The tandem of freshman Luke Smrek and sophomore Greg Anderson clinched the point with a 6-4 decision at No. 2. The duo is now 6-2 on the year in dual competition.
Marquette owned a 3-1 advantage after wins by freshman Brett Meyers and senior Nick Dykema, but the Bluejays were able to post a pair victories of their own to knot the score at 3-3.
The team victory came down to the No. 1 spot, where sophomore Alvaro Verdu was able to post a narrow 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 win over Armando Gandini.
Marquette returns to action on Saturday, April 8 when the team travels to Xavier for a 12 p.m. CT opening serve. The matchup with the Bluejays continues a run of four-straight versus opponents from the BIG EAST Conference.
