The Marquette University men's tennis team opens the fall portion of its 2017-18 campaign this weekend with action at a pair of tournaments Sept. 15-17.
The Golden Eagles will be represented at both the Purdue Fall Invitational (West Lafayette, IN) and River Forest Collegiate Invitational (River Forest, IL) beginning Friday morning. Both events feature singles and doubles competition in flight formats and provide the opportunity for multiple matches.
"Our guys are eager to get on the court and back into the flow of things," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "We have a great mix of experienced veterans and talented newcomers and I am excited to see how we improve as the season progresses."
Junior Alvaro Verdu, sophomore Luke Smrek and freshmen Eddie Griesedieck and Luis Heredia Gomez will travel to Purdue, while the remainder of the roster heads across the state border to River Forest, Ill.
Marquette returns eight letterwinners from last season's squad, which advanced to the championship match of the BIG EAST Tournament for the third-straight campaign. MU compiled an overall record of 15-9 in dual action and has finished with a winning record in 11 of the last 12 seasons.
Head coach Steve Rodecap is entering his 15th year as mentor of the program and owns an overall record of 198-142, just two victories away from 200.
