Marquette University student-athletes and athletics staff continued the department's involvement in one of the city's longest running traditions by participating in the 40th Annual Briggs & Al's Run & Walk for Children's Hospital on Saturday morning.
Over the past four decades, the event has raised more than $20 million for Children's Hospital. 15,000 people were in attendance for this year's run.
The Marquette University men's and women's basketball teams, women's soccer team and women's lacrosse team were among those in attendance.

Volleyball kicks off BIG EAST play with sweep at Butler
The women's volleyball team kicked off its 2017 campaign on Wednesday night with a three-set sweep at Butler, a squad picked ahead of them in the league's preseason poll. Junior Anna Haak recorded a season-best 13 kills in the victory, while Jenna Rosenthal added 12 and hit .550. The squad returned to Milwaukee after Wednesday's match and will host St. John's and Seton Hall this weekend at the Al McGuire Center.

Women's soccer begins defense of BIG EAST regular season title
Women's soccer heads to Butler this weekend to take on Butler, a squad receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll, in its BIG EAST Conference lid-lifter. The Golden Eagles (7-2-1), lost just their second match of the season on Sunday at Milwaukee and are looking to bounce back against the Bulldogs. MU topped BU, 2-1, late last season at Valley Fields on its way to the BIG EAST's No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and a share of its 10th regular season conference crown.

Milwaukee Tennis Classic at the Town Club
The men's and women's tennis teams will open play in the 42nd Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic, starting Thursday. The women's draw will be held at the Town Club in Fox Point, Wisconsin, and for the first time, be co-hosted by Western Racquet Club (men's draw) and UWM Panther Arena (finals).
Another major change for 2017 will be the return to an at-large, individual competition. The MTC was founded over four decades ago by Chas Mulcahy, George Gaspar and John Roethle to promote Marquette tennis, as well as the university's then-new Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
Marquette will send four from the men's side (Greg Anderson, Luis Heredia Gomez, Luke Smrek and Alvaro Verdu) and two from the women's squad (Fleur Eggink and Natalija Popovic) to compete in this year's MTC.
