
Marquette Opens Play at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill.--The Marquette University tennis team opened play on Friday at the Northwestern Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Illinois.
In doubles action Fleur Eggink and Natalija Popovic teamed again and opened with a 6-1 victory over Dunleavy and Miller from Notre Dame, followed by a 6-4 win over a duo from Pittsburgh. The pair will continue play on Saturday.
In the Garnet doubles draw Lesley Foe and Isabella Franks topped Bartolome and Moreno from Pittsburgh, 6-4 before dropping a 6-2 decision to Hule and Garcia of Florida State. In the same draw Andrea Amortegui and Milica Novakovic topped Montana's Bostrom and Panic in a 7-5 battle and then fell to Michigan State, 6-3.
In the green singles flight Foe defeated Evie Shannon (Notre Dame), 6-2, 6-3 and will face UIC's Ameilia Guevremont on Saturday. Novakovic also earned a singles win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Camilia Moreno of Pittsbugh in the Orange flight, while Franks picked up a swift 6-1, 6-0 victory in the round robin flight.
The Golden Eagles will continue competition on Saturday in Evanston.
