Basketball and lacrosse at Boys and Girls Club
The men's basketball and lacrosse teams headed to the Boys and Girls Club in Sherman Park last Saturday to distribute backpacks full of school supplies and interact with local youth. The event was a chance for head basketball coach Steve Wojciechowski to display his ever-evolving skillset:

BIG EAST Digital visits men's and women's basketball
The BIG EAST's John Fanta was on campus earlier this week to meet with both the men's and women's basketball programs for the league's Shootaround coverage. Both squads were featured Thursday on BIG EAST programing.

Women's basketball assists MPS welcome back
Members of the women's basketball team headed to local schools on Tuesday to help welcome Milwaukee Public School pupils back to class for the fall.

Marquette prominently featured at US Lacrosse minicamp
Three former men's lacrosse players and head coach Joe Amplo spent the Labor Day weekend preparing for next summer's Federation of International Lacrosse Men's World Championship. Jacob Richard, Liam Byrnes, B.J. Grill and the White squad fell to the veteran-laden Blue team, 16-13, on Sunday at US Lacrosse headquarters to cap the weekend. Amplo is an assistant coach with the squad.
The next action for the U.S. team will be the weekend of October 6-9 for the Team USA Fall Classic, which will also be held at US Lacrosse headquarters.

Volleyball kicks off home slate; Konovodoff honored
The women's volleyball team (3-3) will host its first matches of the season this weekend at the Al McGuire Center in the Marquette Invitational. The Golden Eagles welcome Loyola Chicago on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. Central time before hosting No. 13 Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. CT. The first 300 students on Friday will receive free pizza, while Sunday is 'Family Fun Fest,' featuring free admission for all kids 12 and under. Libero Martha Konovodoff earned both BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and the Freshman of the Week for her play last weekend. The Sugar Grove, Illinois native led the league in digs per set with 5.25, including a career-best 27 in a four-set win over IUPUI.

Men's soccer hosts SLU on Saturday
Men's soccer (0-2-1) is the other team to host a home event this weekend with a 7:05 p.m. Saturday contest against Saint Louis at Valley Fields. As the squad's 'International Night,' the match will feature a Spanish PA announcer and a variety of food trucks, highlighting international cuisine, will be on the premises.
Three claim women's soccer honors; MU looks to continue winning streak
The women's soccer team (5-1) looks to keep it win and shutout streak alive this weekend with a pair of matches on the East Coast at Boston University and Rhode Island. The Golden Eagles, who have five straight wins and have not allowed an opponent goal in the last 381:55, had three players earn BIG EAST weekly honors for their two wins in the Marquette Invitational. Kylie Sprecher was the league's freshman of the week, Maddy Henry earned her second straight goalkeeper of the week award and Ryley Bugay earned the first honor roll mention of her career.

Cross country to compete at the Dannehl Course
The men's and women's cross country squads will compete in their second meet of the year on Saturday at the Vic Godfrey Open hosted by UW-Parkside at the Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Somers, Wisconsin. The course is the site of the 2017 BIG EAST Championships, which MU hosts later this year.
Senior cross country runner Alec Miller was named the BIG EAST Men's Athlete of the Week after setting a career-best 6k time of 18:41.96 en route to a runner-up finish out of 72 athletes at the Flames/Flyers Challenge last Saturday. He led seven Marquette runners in the top-10 as the squad scored to a 6-0 head-to-head record against other competing teams at the meet.
