T. Thomson to redshirt 2018 season
Marquette has announced that senior midfielder and returning points leader Tanner Thomson will redshirt the 2018 season.
"Tanner faced a tough injury in the fall semester and has recently decided to change career paths academically," Amplo said. "After thoughtful deliberation with him, his family and the staff we have decided that what is best for Tanner in the long run is for him to redshirt this season. While we will miss his presence on gameday, I am thankful that we will have his leadership at practice to mentor a talented but young offensive unit."
Thomson, who scored 20 goals and added 14 assists as a junior in 2017, was an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection as he helped the Golden Eagles to the second of consecutive BIG EAST Tournament titles and NCAA Championship appearances.
The native of Toronto ranks seventh in Marquette history in both points (55) and goals (39) and started all 16 games as a junior.
He is joined on the MU roster this season by younger brother, Keaton, a freshman attackman.
Marquette begins its spring with a scrimmage at Cleveland State on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. Central time and plays another pair of exhibition contests before beginning regular season play.
