MLAX Uses 6–1 Late Run to Stun Providence in Overtime

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Marquette University men's lacrosse team (5–4, 1–0 BIG EAST) used a 6–1 run spanning the fourth quarter and overtime to secure a 14–13 victory over Providence (4–7, 0–1 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles were led by Ethan Salvia, who tallied six points on three goals and three assists. Nolan Rappis recorded five points, while Carsen Brandt added four.
Providence opened the game with a strong first quarter, scoring five goals to take an early advantage. Marquette responded with three goals of its own to remain within striking distance after the opening frame.
The Golden Eagles settled in during the second quarter, matching Providence's physical play while tightening up defensively. Marquette found its offensive rhythm to even the contest at 6–6 heading into halftime.
Both teams traded momentum throughout the third quarter, with Providence briefly regaining control behind a four-goal period. Marquette answered with key possessions and timely finishes to remain within reach entering the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles scored five goals, including the game-tying strike from Beau Westphal with 5.6 seconds remaining to force overtime.
On the opening possession of overtime, Nolan Rappis found Salvia for the game-winning goal, securing the 14–13 victory.
