
Marquette Drops a 95-83 Decision at DePaul

CHICAGO--The Marquette University women's basketball team registered its first loss in the last five meetings against DePaul on Monday night, 95-83, at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
The Golden Eagles (14-7, 8-2) now sit even with the Blue Demons (16-6, 8-2) in the league standings to start the second half of BIG EAST play.
Marquette was led by Danielle King with 23 points and five assists, followed by Natisha Hiedeman with 21 points and six assists. Allazia Blockton tallied 11 points and eight rebounds, bringing her within 30 points of cracking the top-10 all-time scoring list at MU. Amani Wilborn rounded out the double-digit scoring, chipping in 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick lead in the opening quarter, but DePaul responded with a 7-0 run to finish out the frame, leading 25-22. The second frame began with an uncharacteristic scoring drought on both ends, including a 4-of-21 (19 percent) showing from the Blue Demons in three-point territory.
The third quarter followed suit as DePaul recorded another 7-0 run to extend the lead over MU to 57-46, its then-largest lead of the contest. The Blue Demons outscored Marquette 26-22 in the fourth and final frame to hold on for a 12-point victory.
Kelly Campbell dialed things up a notch to total 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Blue Demons, who found their regular rhythm as the game closed with six in double-digit scoring for the seventh time this season.
DePaul outrebounded Marquette, 44-36, and capitalized on free throws, tallying 18 points from the stripe to MU's 10.
Marquette returns home for a pair of games against Providence on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. Central time and Creighton on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. CT.
