Anna Haak earns her fourth double-double of the season and second consecutive
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Travel issues forced schedule changes for the weekend, but it was no matter to the Marquette University volleyball team as the 19th-ranked Golden Eagles earned its sixth consecutive victory and sweep, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-22) at Seton Hall on Saturday evening at Walsh Gymnasium.
Junior Allie Barber paced Marquette's (16-4, 7-1) offense once again with a match-high 15 kills and a .314 hitting percentage, while senior Anna Haak turned in a stellar performance with her fourth double-double of the season and second in as many games with 14 kills and 12 digs.
Junior Lauren Speckman and sophomore Sarah Rose each handed out 22 and 19 assists, respectively, while the Golden Eagles defense was moving around the court with three recording double figure kills. Sophomores Martha Konovodoff and Hope Werch each tallied 15 to go with Haak's 12 digs, while MU combined for 56 total in the match.
Redshirt senior Jenna Rosenthal added four blocks and totaled seven kills and is now at 999 in her career.
"Tonight was a funny match," head coach Ryan Theis said. "At times our offense was rolling and at times the defense got stops, but rarely were both rolling at the same time, so we are pleased to get out with a win."
Seton Hall (7-15, 2-7) was led by Abby Thelen with 10 kills as Sophia Coffey dished out a match-best 31 assists to her teammates.
The Golden Eagles used efficient hitting in the first two sets to earn a pair of 25-19 victories after falling behind the Pirates early and staved off a late push in the third set for a 25-22 win, securing the sweep. In each of its seven BIG EAST victories, Marquette has not dropped one set.
The Golden Eagles will close the weekend at St. John's with first serve slated for 2 p.m. CT in Queens, N.Y. This will mark the halfway point in BIG EAST play.
