The Golden Eagles have won a program-record 24 consecutive sets
MILWAUKEE - Hope Werch and Elizabeth Orf led Marquette with 10 kills each, as the 18th-ranked Golden Eagles rolled to their eighth straight win with a three-set victory (25-7, 25-16, 25-14) over DePaul at the Al McGuire Center on Friday night.

Marquette (18-4, 9-1 BIG EAST) has won 24 straight sets since September 23, which extends a program record.

Defense was key for the Golden Eagles, who held DePaul to .033 hitting thanks in part to a season-high 13.5 blocks, led by eight block assists for Jenna Rosenthal. Marquette hit .375 for the match, led by a blistering .769 clip from Werch and collected seven service aces.

In set one, Marquette opened the match scoring 12 of the first 14 points, growing the lead to as many as 16 at 20-4. The Golden Eagles picked up five blocks, while holding DePaul to a -.111 hitting percentage. Werch and Rosenthal each went 3-for-3 hitting, as MU connected on 14-of-22 attacks.

DePaul kept the score within a pair of points at 14-12 in set two, but Marquette scored 11 of the next 15 to win its 23rd set in a row. The Golden Eagles landed three service aces in the second, including back-to-back aces by Sarah Rose that gave Marquette a 7-3 lead.

Five kills from Werch lifted Marquette in the third set, and the Golden Eagles added five more blocks to their total to close out the win.Â
Sophomore Sarah Rose and junior Lauren Speckman each handed out 16 and 12 assists, respectively, while sophomore Martha Konovodoff collected 11 digs.

Marquette closes the weekend with a non-conference matchup at Northern Iowa (RV) on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT, in the first matchup since MU's five set win over the Panthers in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
