The Golden Eagles open the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 6 against UMBC
MILWAUKEE – Marquette shot 76.2 percent in the second half on its way to an 87-44 victory over Carroll on Tuesday evening in its first game at Fiserv Forum.
Redshirt junior guard Sacar Anim led five Golden Eagles in double figures with 17 points, while Ed Morrow added 16 and six rebounds. In addition to 11 points from Markus Howard, Joey and Sam Hauser posted 11 and 10, respectively, in their first game together on a collegiate court.
Anim led the Golden Eagles to a 19-point first half lead (41-22) with 10 of MU's 41 points in the first 20 minutes of action. Marquette used a 10-0 run late in the frame and rebounded from early shooting woes to finish the frame 16-of-33 (48.5 percent) from the floor.
The first point in an intercollegiate contest at the arena came at the 19:08 mark of the first half on a jumper by Carroll's Troy Howat.
The Golden Eagles are 13-2 all-time against the Pioneers in regular season action, but the two teams haven't met since the season opener in the 1951-52 campaign. MU would claim its first-ever title that season, earning the crown at the National Catholic Tournament in Troy, New York. The series dates Marquette's first varsity season in 1916-17 and the Pioneers were able to claim a narrow 24-21 decision.
