Barraza's impressive season in goal nets him third weekly accolade
NEW YORK – For the third time this season and second-straight week, senior goalkeeper Luis Barraza has earned BIG EAST Conference weekly distinction, the league office announced on Monday.
Barraza tied a career-high with 10 saves, including six in the first half, against Providence on Saturday. He came just 16 seconds away from his fourth shutout of the season, which would've been a career-high. The Friars converted a header off a free kick in the waning moments of a scoreless game as Marquette was stunned in the final minute.
The Santa Teresa, New Mexico, native currently leads the BIG EAST and ranks in the nation's top-10 in save percentage (.857), while also leading the league in saves per game (5.25) and ranking third in goals against average (0.85) and shutouts per game (0.38).
The Golden Eagles return to Valley Fields on Saturday, Oct. 13, to take on St. John's in BIG EAST battle. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. Central time.
