Marquette outshot JU, 36-21, but the Dolphins (1-2) won 13-of-25 faceoffs on the day.
Marquette jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first quarter and McClelland scored the game's first goal off an assist from Ryan Fazio just two minutes into play. The Dolphins found some offensive rhythm in the second frame, but went into half trailing 6-3. Jacksonville held MU scoreless in the third frame to knot the game at 6-6.
The entire fourth quarter was a back-and-forth affair that saw Marquette take a two-goal lead before Jacksonville tied it at eight with 7:44 to go. A pair of goals from Wagner and McClelland lifted the Golden Eagles to a 10-8 lead, but the Dolphins won consecutive face-offs and found the back of the net twice to tie the game at 10 with 2:28 remaining.
From there, the Golden Eagles forced Jacksonville into a key shot-clock violation and took the ball the length of the field before calling a timeout with 30 seconds remaining. Out of the break, Wagner worked his way to the middle of the field and ripped the game-winner.
