INDIANAPOLIS - Marquette University student-athlete Djdade Denson was one of only 30 selected to participate in the NCAA Diversity and Inclusion Forum to take place in Indianapolis on April 14-16.
Denson, a senior on the Marquette men's track & field team, was accepted to participate in the NCAA's Inclusion Forum as part of the Regional Student-Athlete Engagement Program.
The program was initiated to provide student-athletes an opportunity to attend the NCAA Inclusion Forum, where they will join higher education and intercollegiate athletics leaders committed to improving the educational and professional environments for student-athletes, coaches and staff.
Denson and 29 others will attend sessions that engage broad range of topics related to policy, research and best practices that focus on core areas of race/ethnicity, women/gender equity, LGBTQ inclusion, disability sport and international students.
"I think this is a great opportunity for DJ to enhance his learning and bring back to campus an enhanced perspective on our diversity and inclusion practices within the athletic department," said Adrienne Ridgeway, Marquette Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services and Student Programs. "Most importantly, it will create a stronger dialogue and conversation regarding best practices in diversity and inclusion principles."
The various sessions are designed to educate and empower student-athletes, enhance their diversity-and-inclusion competencies, provide practical takeaways and foster opportunities for dialogue on campuses and across conferences.
The program will conclude with an open forum, allowing participants to discuss key talking points and action steps that each can bring back to their respective campuses to continue the conversation.
Denson is just the latest member from the track & field program to partake in NCAA-related forum, following junior Monique Felix's participation at the NCAA Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. in November.
