MILWAUKEE - Marquette University's 2018 Ralph H. Metcalfe Senior Awards were given out on Sunday evening at Discovery World on the Milwaukee Lakefront during the Blue & Golden Globes, along with honors from MU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The senior awards honor the legacy of former Marquette track star Ralph Metcalfe, the world's fastest man from 1932-34 and a Marquette University class president.
Sprinter Cassy Goodrich earned the top women's senior athlete honor for a career that earned her 13 finishes on the BIG EAST Conference podium, six Marquette program records and a pair of indoor and outdoor team conference titles. On the men's side, Zachary Melillo of men's lacrosse and Andrew Rowsey of men's basketball shared the honor for their record-breaking seasons and careers.
Melillo helped the men's lacrosse team to its first two BIG EAST tournament titles and NCAA Championship appearances, while setting a standard at the face-off dot that will be tough to replicate for future Golden Eagles. Rowsey broke both Marquette single-season marks for scoring and 3-pointers made during 2017-18, surpassing marks set by former Golden Eagles Dwyane Wade and Steve Novak, respectively.
Academically, Monique Felix and Alex Halloway of the men's and women's track and field teams received their BIG EAST Conference Institutional Scholar-Athlete Awards from earlier this year, while the Metcalfe Academic Awards were given to distance runner Aric Miller and women's soccer player Caroline Fink.
Fink was also given the President's Award by Marquette University President Dr. Michael R. Lovell for posting a cumulative grade-point average of 4.0 during her MU career.
Holloway also took home a senior award as the male senior leadership honoree and women's lacrosse player Alex Gambacorta earned the female honor.
