For the first time ever, 16 Marquette student-athletes are using the start of their summer break for the chance to take an international service trip through Courts for Kids. In order to raise funds for the trip, a campaign page has been set up and will remain active through April 27 with a goal of raising $10,000.
Marquette has been assigned the community of Tipitapa outside of Managua, Nicaragua. This community was largely impacted by flooding in 2009. Our Marquette student-athletes will be a part of this community for seven days beginning on May 12.
During the trip, student-athletes will help create a safe space in the form of a basketball court where kids can play, bond, and unite. In building this court, the students hope to display unity - through sports, through our university, and through the community. The itinerary includes:
- Five days of building
- One day of a dedication of the court and playing sports with community members'
- One day of culture
You can support our student-athletes in this endeavor by signing up to be an advocate and spreading the word, or by giving to the campaign. Donors who give at certain levels are eligible for prizes including a trip souvenir, photo from the trip, and personal thank you notes from the students.
If you have questions about making a gift to this campaign, please contact Brooke Robbins at brooke.robbins@marquette.edu or (414)288-4769.
