The Marquette University men's tennis team (12-5) claimed a 5-2 victory over Creighton (7-9) Friday afternoon at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles return to action at 10 a.m. CT on Sunday, April 8 when BIG EAST opponent Xavier visits campus.
MU opened the match with a narrow 7-5 victory by junior Greg Anderson and freshman Luis Heredia Gomez at No. 2 doubles, which claimed the opening point for a 1-0 advantage.
Sophomore Brett Meyers moved Marquette ahead 2-0 in impressive fashion. After falling behind 2-0 in the first set, he rattled off 12-straight wins to earn a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 5. Classmate Luke Smrek posted a straight-set win of his own and Heredia Gomez clinched the team decision with a 6-4, 6-4 battle at No. 3.
