The Marquette men's cross country team was honored for the second-straight year
NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference has announced the 22 teams that have earned the distinction of 2017-18 Team Academic Excellence Award winners and the Marquette University men's cross country team was recognized for the second-straight season for having the highest collective grade-point average for their sport.
Â
The men's cross country team compiled a 3.45 GPA for the 2017-18 academic year. For the second year in a row, it was the lone Marquette program represented on the list. In 2016-17, it compiled a 3.49 GPA.
Â
Five different schools had at least one team honored, with Georgetown leading the way with five certificates. DePaul had four teams recognized, followed by Creighton and St. John's with three. Butler had a pair of teams earn certificates, while Marquette, Seton Hall, Villanova, Temple and Vanderbilt rounded out the award winners with one nod apiece.
Â
The winners were chosen based on the 2017-18 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
