MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's track and field team, which is coming off the heels of its second BIG EAST outdoor team championship in program history, welcomes 14 newcomers ahead of the 2018-19 season.
Â
"This is also a well-rounded group," said head coach Bert Rogers, who enters his 12th season at the helm. "We added some depth within our sprint group and filled a couple holes from departures due to graduation. We're looking to maintain our status at the championship level."
Â
This year's class represents six states, including Wisconsin, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Texas, plus high jumper Harry Baker, who hails from Pulborough, West Sussex, England.
Â
Every event group is represented among the newcomers, including the distance core, which adds a team-high six athletes. Mike Nelson, who enters his 12th season at Marquette, will once again guide the cross country team this fall.
Â
All newcomers are eligible to compete immediately for a team looking to carry its momentum from an impressive outdoor track and field campaign that witnessed a program-record 32 All-BIG EAST honorees, including 11 individual champions combined during indoor and outdoor competitions.
