The Marquette University men's tennis team will open the fall portion of the 2018-19 campaign this weekend with the River Forest Collegiate Invitational spanning Sept. 14-16.

The event features singles and doubles competition in flight formats. MU will be represented by senior Greg Anderson, juniors Alexander Warstler and Brandon Shanklin, sophomores Julian Robinson and Eddie Griesedieck and freshman Shaddy Khalafallah. Assitant coach Jud Schaufler will travel with the team to the tourney.

"The fall is a great time for our guys to get back in the competitive mindset and work on their individual games," Schaufler said. "We have tremendous depth on our roster and are looking forward to a fall strong campaign."

Marquette returns nine total letterwinners from last year's historical squad, as MU made its first-ever team NCAA Tournament berth. The Golden Eagles earned the automatic bid after clinching their first-ever BIG EAST Championship since advancing to the title match in each of the previous three seasons.

The team posted a 17-7 overall record in 2017-18, while then-junior Alvaro Verdu was named BIG EAST Player of the Year.

Marquette's head coach and Director of Tennis Steve Rodecap begins his 16th year at the helm of the men's program and owns a 215-149 record. Rodecap eclipsed the 200-win mark last season and became the winningest coach in program history.

Following the River Forest Collegiate Invitational, the team will partake in the 43rd Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The tournament begins on Thursday, Sept. 20 with the final taking place on the campus of Marquette University at the Al McGuire Center for the first time on Sunday, Sep. 23.
