Former MU All-America selection in both for 2018-19 season
Former Marquette standout Tony Smith will join the radio broadcasts for Marquette men's basketball games as an analyst in 2018-19, Marquette Athletics and Marquette Sports Properties announced Wednesday afternoon.
Smith will join long-time voice of the Golden Eagles, Steve "The Homer" True, and producer Kent Sommerfeld in the booth all season long, providing MU fans with exclusive coverage of the program on the Marquette Radio Network all season long. Smith, who replaces fellow alum Jim Mcllvaine, has worked in previous seasons for FS Wisconsin on its coverage of the Milwaukee Bucks.
"I couldn't be more excited to be back with my Marquette family," Smith said. "I already feel like I am home and I'm looking forward to working with Homer and the team. It's going to be a great season."
A 1990 Associated Press Honorable Mention and a Second Team Midwest All-America selection, Smith was a four-time letterwinner at Marquette.
Smith accumulated United Press International, Sporting News and Basketball Times All-American honors for the 1989-1990 season while his AP honor at the time was the first for Marquette in 12 years. He is one of only seven players in program history to record over 1,000 points and 400 assists during his career, and he still holds the Marquette single-season record for scoring average with 23.8 ppg in 1989-1990.
After being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 1990 NBA Draft, Smith went on to enjoy an eight-year playing career with five teams, including the Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks and the Lakers.
